Little Egg Harbor Christmas mystery trees cut down

Remember this? The enduring Christmas mystery that brought smiles to the faces of New Jersey motorists for the past four years?

Well, the AP says, the party’s over.

Two huge pine trees, which had been adorned with ornaments each December by an unknown decorator, have been cut down as part of a project to widen the parkway from two to three lanes between Toms River and Atlantic City.

No one ever took responsibility for decorating the trees, which had been located just south of Exit 58 in the southbound lanes.

Maybe the stealth decorator will showcase his talents elsewhere–he’s got all summer to scout out locations.
