Move over Punxsutawney Phil – the Wildwood Pretzel is back!

Punxsutawney has a groundhog. Wildwood has…a pretzel?

That’s RIGHT ladies and gentleman, the Wildwood Pretzel is back. I have no idea where he’s been. I thought maybe he’d been torn asunder by seagulls, or felled by skin cancer after baking on the beach for too long, or maybe burned up in a freak tree lighting accident and that we’d never see his little figure eight shape on the boardwalk again.

But thank goodness he’s returned. The pretzel, who made his debut in 2009 courtesy of the Cape May County Herald, will head out to see what he can see on Feb. 2. If he sees his shadow, we’ll have six more weeks of winter weather.

Oh, Wildwood Pretzel, do be kind. It’s been a long, cold winter of rebuilding and angst for so many. Please, turn that way to not see your shadow, and give us an early spring, okay? We’ll ward off the seagulls for you.
