More than 253K without electricity in N.J.

    More than 253,000 homes and businesses in New Jersey are hoping to get their electricity back by the weekend or sooner.

    Public Service Electric & Gas is reporting 77,800 outages.

    About half were caused during the nor’easter that blanketed the state with heavy, wet snow.

    Jersey Central Power & Light has 173,459 customers without service. Most are clustered in Monmouth, Ocean and Morris counties.

    Orange & Rockland has reduced the number of customers without power to 1,529.

    Atlantic City Electric has 291 outages, mainly in Atlantic County.
