More lane closures for 30th Street Station area improvements
Commuters around 30th Street Station should pay a little more attention today, since continued work in the area will result in lane closures.
We’re looking at you, walking texters, coffee drinkers and read-the-paper-in-the-car drivers. Beginning today, you can expect the following closures on this week:
Eastbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane approaching the 30th Street/Market Street Interchange (Exit 345) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday for construction on the Chestnut Street bridge. Westbound I-76 will be restricted to one lane at the 30th Street Interchange (Exit 345) from 10 p.m. Monday (Sept. 26) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 27) for construction. Lane closures also will occur on Market Street between 30th Street and Schuylkill Avenue Monday through Friday (Sept. 26-30) from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for expansion joint and sidewalk construction. Chestnut Street will be restricted between 30th Street and Schuylkill Avenue Monday through Friday (Sept. 26-30) from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for expansion joint work. Chestnut Street will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. Traffic will be detoured over 33rd Street, Market Street and Schuylkill Avenue.
The work is part of PennDOT’s $50.8 million project to improve the area around 30th Street Station. Surface work is expected to finish up in November.
