Monster truck event will support Philadelphia’s mounted police unit

The Philadelphia Police Department announced today some horsepower (pun intended) behind the return of its mounted unit: monster trucks.

June’s Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam at Lincoln Financial Field will donate a portion of the proceeds to the department’s mounted unit.

Police escorted Monster Truck driver Mike Vaters and his five-ton truck, Black Stallion, to police headquarters today for the announcement.

The Mounted Unit will be up and running later this year with 10 to 12 horses. The first five of those horses have been named after police officers who’ve died in the line of duty since 2008.
