Millville church finds new home after fire

The blaze started Saturday in the white bell tower of the In His Presence Worship Center in Millville, N.J. About a dozen people inside the building escape unharmed but the building was destroyed, leaving the congregation  homeless.

On Sunday, it held services and found spiritual nourishment in the Cornbread House restaurant in Bridgeton.

Now, a local businessman has proposed a longer term solution with the offer of another nontraditional space — the former site of a Circuit City.

Pastor David Ennis said the congregation will bring chairs and a pulpit to the former big-box store building.

“I think it will be more like home,” he said. “Plus, God is never limited to just a church building […] so I’m looking forward to getting into our new home.”

The congregation will not reconvene in the big box space until after Christmas. The church doesn’t hold holiday services because Ennis wants to let families spend that time together.
