Mayoral candidate unveils Education Commission in wake of Ackerman’s departure

Diop Olugbala, Philadelphia’s third-party mayoral candidate, will hold an afternoon press conference on Broad Street to discuss the state of education in the city in the wake of Arlene Ackerman’s buyout by the School District of Philadelphia.

Olugbala is expected to announce his creation of an Education Commission, which he calls a “a community-based body of education education experts, parents, students and concerned citizens prepared to address the education crisis through community control of the schools.”

The members of the commission will be introduced at 1 p.m. at Broad and Spring Garden streets.
