Man charged in caseworker slaying out of hospital

Authorities say a man accused of having shot his caseworker to death and grazed his psychiatrist at a Philadelphia-area hospital complex last month before the doctor returned fire is out of the hospital.

Emily Harris, spokeswoman for the Delaware County district attorney’s office, said 49-year-old Richard Plotts was discharged Thursday from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was taken to the Delaware County prison, where he is to be arraigned by video on homicide and other charges Tuesday afternoon.

Plotts is charged in the July 24 shooting death of 53-year-old Theresa Hunt at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Authorities say psychiatrist Lee Silverman was grazed in the temple and thumb. They said he crouched behind a chair and pulled out his own gun, firing several shots at Plotts, wounding him.
