Local honor for Chester teacher who attended State of the Union

    She was a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama at the State of the Union address. She was given $100,000 by Ellen DeGeneres for her school.

    Now Chester-Upland teacher Sara Ferguson has been honored on the home front.

    The Delaware County Times reports Chester Mayor John Linder recently presented the Columbus Elementary School teacher with a proclamation of appreciation for her work in the district.

    Ferguson is one of many Chester Upland teachers who agreed to work temporarily without pay earlier this year when the financially struggling district announced it might not be able to meet payroll.
