Layoff notices sent to 848 blue-collar School District of Philadelphia employees

Nearly 850 blue-collar School District of Philadelphia workers have received noticed they’ve got a year left on the job.

Layoff notices have gone out to 848 District 1201 of SEIU Local 32BJ members — transportation, maintenance and custodial workers — informing the employees they’ll be laid off in 12 months.

The notices follow District 1201’s vote to reject contract concessions, as the Public School Notebook reports. The district wanted 575 layoffs to help achieve its $75 million savings goal from unions.
