Lawyer: All Olympic events should to be open for bets

A lawyer for a casino operator says sports books in Nevada should be free to take bets on any or all of the 306 medal events in the Olympic Games.

However, regulators appeared interested in allowing Olympic betting on case-by-case basis.

Attorney Barry Lieberman, who represents South Point casino owner Gaughan South LLC, and Las Vegas-area sports books made their case Thursday at a workshop with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

The businesses want to change existing rules that ban betting on non-collegiate amateur sports and tweak regulations to allow for wagers on other non-sporting events such as the Academy Awards.
