Lautenberg presses for enforcement of bus safety rules

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg is calling for the implementation of bus safety guidelines proposed in 2009. Following two deadly crashes, one en route to Philadelphia, Lautenberg has planned hearings to determine why those measures haven’t been put in place.

As the Associated Press reports, the New Jersey senator has written to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to call for quicker changes to guidelines on seat belts, bus company oversight, driver texting bans and rollover prevention, among other factors.

Since the 2009 proposal, only the texting item has been implemented.
