Jenkintown community project meant to beautify business dist.

Business owners in Jenkintown are stepping up to beautify the business district as part of a project organizers hope will create a sense of pride in the community.

In a story from the Montgomery County News, Jenkintown business owner Linda Stewart helped to launch the Jenkintown Community Alliance.

To start, the group is placing flower planters along Old York Road, West Avenue and Leedom Street.

The effort in Jenkintown is happening at the same time as a road renovation project along York Road from July until June 2012.

According to the report, the Jenkintown Community Alliance used $500 from its budget to pay for the planters.  The planters were given to business owners on the condition they would water them.

Stewart told the Montgomery County News she wanted to distract from pre-streetscape conditions.
