IT firm owner admits to defrauding Philadelphia for contract work
Barry Jones will return to court this fall after admitting today he defrauded the City of Philadelphia of $1.2 million by overbilling the city for work his subcontractors never did.
Jones is the owner of Haddonfield’s Mara Management Services Inc., an IT firm. He was accused last month of submitting fake charges to three city departments between 2004 and 2008.
The Inquirer reports Jones pleaded guilty in federal court to mail fraud. Last month, City Inspector General Amy Kurland told WHYY’s Dave Davies the office has asked other city departments that worked with Jones to take a good look at their billings. Jones will be sentenced Nov. 14.
