Philadelphia’s Sustainability Director has had enough. Mark Alan Hughes announced Monday that after a year on the job, his last day will be June 18th.

Mark Alan Hughes took the job to help craft the city’s sustainability framework, called Greenworks Philadelphia.

The plan was just unveiled last month, and Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia Executive Director Alex Doty says plenty of work is left for Hughes’ replacement.

Doty: In the end that Sustainability Office is really about trying to get everybody else to implement the plan. The goals are going to be reached by the operational departments of the city and ultimately some of those goals are going to be reached by the citizens so it’s going to take someone who can communicate those goals to the Administration, the city government, and the city itself.

Doty says in addition to working out the details of the plan, the city’s next Sustainability Director will also need to coordinate the efforts of many city departments and others groups like the Bicycle Coalition.
