Investigators determine squatter started Tuesday’s Camden fire

While authorities continue to investigate a series of Camden warehouse fires, the source of Tuesday’s blaze has been found.

Police have charged a woman who was squatting in the building at Sixth Street and Carl Miller Boulevard with igniting the fire.

According to a report from the Gloucester County Times, 35-year-old Tami Shipp used a cigarette lighter to ignite paper, which she stuffed under a mattress. Authorities say Shipp started the fire after an argument with her boyfriend, who was also using the building for shelter. The left the burning building without alerting him, but no injuries were reported.

The fire is connected to the three other multi-alarm blazes in the city.
