Husband, wife die in fiery tow truck crash in Jackson

    A husband and wife en route to an accident were killed when their tow truck went through a stop sign, struck trees, and burst into flames Tuesday night in Jackson. 

    Robert Johnson, 70, and his wife Shirley Johnson, 62, were traveling on Cassville Road when the incident occurred, entrapping both inside the tow truck. 

    Police Sgt. Brian Geoghegan tells The Star-Ledger flames drove back police and Good Samaritans who tried using fire extinguishers to rescue the couple.

    The Johnsons were pronounced dead at the scene.
