Hurricane gunman found dead in Bucks

In case you missed it, the search for an armed gunman in Bucks County this weekend ended with the police discovery of his body around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday.

Leonard J. Egland, an Army captain, is believed to have killed his ex-wife, Carrie, and two other people in Virginia before grabbing his daughter and driving to Pennsylvania, Doylestown-Buckingham-NewBritain Patch reports.

Egland broke into Carrie’s mother’s house at 3491 Church School Road and shot her. Barbara Ruehl, 66, was found dead Saturday around midnight.

It was initially believed that he was suffering mental effects from recent wartime service, but new details from his records say otherwise. An army spokesman says that Egland returned from his post on Sept. 20, 2009 and had served three combat tours over the past 18 years.

The police manhunt lasted nearly 16 hours. Two officers were wounded and much of Warwick Township was under lockdown over the weekend.
