Hope Creek nuclear plant goes offline in southern N.J.

LOWER ALLOWAYS CREEK TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The Hope Creek nuclear plant in southern New Jersey is offline after high moisture was found in the steam that spins the plant’s turbine.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says all safety systems responded as designed on Sunday. The NRC says no radiation was released and no one was injured.

PSEG Nuclear spokesman Joe Delmar tells the South Jersey Times high moisture can damage the turbine.

Delmar says the two reactors at the neighboring Salem Generating Station in Lower Alloways Creek Township remain operational.
