Photo Slide Show – Haiti: two years later

    Jan. 12, 2012, was the two-year anniversary of the earthquake that shook Haiti and tested the country’s infrastructure and health care system

    Last month, healthcare workers and volunteers from the Philadelphia region traveled to Port-au-Prince and returned with photos to share with Newsworks.

    The medical mission included physicians from Drexel and Temple universities.

    Lighthouse Covenant International and Espwam, two humanitarian organizations, sponsored the trip.

    The team cared for about 1,500 patients with a range of health concerns from malnutrition and dehydration to high blood pressure and diabetes, according to Lighthouse chair Maurine McFarlane.

    McFarlane said the medical team was alarmed by the of lack obstetric care and her group hopes to sponsor future trips to improve OB-GYN access for low-income women.
