New Jersey and Delaware have confirmed that nine people total have become sick from the H1N1 strain of influenza (swine flu). A family of three in Burlington County NJ were among those who are ill, and the health department says all five cases in the state have been mild. Four Delaware college students who contracted H1N1 also have mild flu symptoms and no one has been hospitalized. Pennsylvania health officials are awaiting test results from four “probable” cases of H1N1 in the Philadelphia area.

The University of Delaware has responded by canceling this weekend’s scheduled track and field competition in Newark as well as pulling the women’s rowing and softball and men’s baseball teams out of this weekend’s competitions.
