Great pumpkins: Pa. gourd crop gets good reviews

    Growers say this year’s pumpkin crop in Pennsylvania is coming in well, with good shape, nice color and plenty of weight.

    The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat reported Friday the growing season seems to have struck the right balance by getting enough rain for the vegetables to thrive but not so much as to cause growth problems.

    Penn State Cooperative Extension commercial horticultural expert Tom Ford tells the paper he’s fielding reports of an abundant supply and prices that are better than last year’s.
