Game on: Sixers begin shortened NBA season in Portland

Last year, the Philadelphia 76ers opened the season with a 3-13 record, this year, the team will try to open the new season on a much better note in their first game tonight against the Portland Trailblazers.

After a long strike, the NBA returned to the courts this weekend with several games for the Christmas holiday.

Under new ownership, the Philadelphia 76ers begin a new chapter in franchise history.

The team will have a new mascot and has made additions to entertainment aspects of the game. A little earlier this month, the Sixers announced a new partnership with the Philadelphia Orchestra and “American Idol” finalist Ayla Brown for a Sixers-specific National Anthem.

The Sixers enter this season with a healthy roster. They’ll face a Portland lineup riddled with injuries.

    Tip-off tonight is at 10 p.m.

The original version of this story stated the Sixers did not make the playoffs last year, when in fact they did but lost in the first round to the Miami Heat.
