Funding issues delay Love Park renovations

Renovations at Love Park are behind schedule, and it all comes down to funding.

Because the $30 to $35 million needed to re-do the park and its lower-level parking lot, an architecture and engineering consultant has not yet been chosen. That was supposed to happen in April.

PlanPhilly reports the initial request for proposal called for $35 million from the Philadelphia Parking Authority, but current plans include a mix of funding from “city capital funds, garage revenue bonds and private foundations.” Few other details have been provided.

The PPA was footing the bill because repairs needed on the underground garage leave no choice but to strip away the park’s surface.
