Free concert and fireworks top off Philly 4th of July

Thousands stuck out a soggy Fourth of July to attend the annual Welcome America Concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Intermittent showers and overcast skies put a damper on the start of the day, but the wet weather moved out just in time for the start of the concert.

This year’s lineup featured Arizona-born singer/songwriter Zella Day, Los Angeles duo MKTO, country singer Jennifer Nettles, and pop singer Miguel. Philadelphia’s homegrown hip hop/neo-soul band, The Roots, headlined the concert. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and other members of The Roots also sat in as backing band for Nettles and Miguel.

The free concert wrapped up several days of events leading up to the Fourth of July celebration, and ended with fireworks behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
