Flooding hits southern Delaware

A weekend of heavy rains closed roads and flooded homes and businesses in Sussex County.

Thunderstorms dumped seven inches of rain in Sussex, more than six inches in Rehoboth Beach, and nearly five inches at Sussex County Airport near Georgetown.  The Department of Transportation says River Road was closed Sunday between Chief Road and Oak Orchard Road.  Holly Lake Road was also closed between Phillips Branch Road and Delaware Route 24.  There was also high water reported at Delaware Route 5 and Beaver Dam Road.

There is a threat for more storms Monday afternoon in Sussex County.  With more rain on the way, the National Weather Service has extended a Flood Advisory for the county until 5:30 p.m.
