First of its kind: Clifton Heights Police Officer first to receive Commendation of Valor

A Clifton Heights Police Officer was the first to receive the Commendation of Valor Saturday night, the borough’s highest honor.

The Daily Times reports Officer Kevin Schieler was the first to receive the award during a fundraiser benefit.

Schieler was pinned between two vehicles when a suspected drug dealer fled from a Kmart parking lot in February.

The officer suffered several injuries, including a broken leg, two broken hips, a broken pelvis, a fractured spine, broken ribs to his left side and a deflated and punctured lung, according to The Daily Times.
