Feeling thankful: Elverson couple’s car struck by tractor-trailer

An elderly couple from Elverson is okay after a tractor-trailer accident left the two pinned in their car this week.

The Pottstown Mercury reports the couple’s car was struck by a tractor-trailer Wednesday as they were traveling on the westbound lanes of the Route 30 Bypass at Pottstown Pike.

According to the report, emergency crews found the car trapped underneath the tractor-trailer. Firefighters had to cut the 79-year-old driver and the  77-year-old passenger out of the vehicle. The two were taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries.

The accident left the westbound lanes closed for nearly two hours Wednesday on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

The Pottstown Mercury says the accident is still under investigation, but it appears the vehicle was trying to merge onto the bypass from the northbound on-ramp when it fishtailed into the path of the tractor-trailer.
