Family meets with CHOP to discuss kidney transplant options for disabled girl

The parents of 3-year-old Amelia Rivera met Friday with officials at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to discuss the next steps for the young girl.

Earlier this month, Chrissy and Joseph Rivera said CHOP denied Amelia a kidney transplants because she has Wolf-Hirschorn syndrome, which causes delayed growth and physical and intellectual disability.
The Inquirer reports today doctors have since discussed with the couple how to proceed and have family members tested as possible organ matches. It’s still not been made clear if Amelia is medically eligible for a transplant.
