State Police to conduct sobriety checkpoint on Parkway tonight

The New Jersey State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on the Garden State Parkway this evening, authorities said.

The checkpoint will be in the northbound lanes near the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, according to a New Jersey State Police release. Country singer Tim McGraw will be performing at the venue.

State troopers will be looking for signs of drug or alcohol impairment.

“Enhanced DWI enforcement on the Garden State Parkway will serve as a deterrent to people who may be inclined to take the wheel after having too much to drink,” said Lt. Colonel Patrick Callahan, New Jersey State Police Deputy Superintendent, in a release. “We are confident that taking impaired drivers off the road will reduce the overall number of crashes in the area.”

Authorities say to expect delays in the area.

“If you plan on drinking, do not drive, and make sure to always have a designated driver,” the release said.
