Dump truck leaves GSP, plunges into Great Egg Harbor Bay

    A dump truck crashed on the Garden State Parkway and plunged into the Great Egg Harbor Bay Friday afternoon.

    The accident happened at 2:36 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the Great Egg Bridge that spans the bay, connecting Atlantic and Cape May counties, according to the New Jersey State Police. 

    Emergency units rescued the driver, the sole occupant, who was then flown to the AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center City Campus in Atlantic City, police said.

    No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

    At 4:10 p.m., southbound traffic is snarled to the Atlantic City Expressway.

    [UPDATE (4:20 p.m.): All southbound lanes will be closed shortly for an accident investigation, according to the New Jersey State Police.]
