Duck Boats to return, but not to Delaware

The tourist attraction will boat around the Schuylkill River in 2011.

The Ride the Ducks Attraction will come back to Philadelphia in the spring. The route will change including the water portion of the ride.

The duck boats, which give tours on both streets and the water have been closed since an accident killed two tourists on July seventh. A city owned barge struck the stalled duck boat near Penn’s Landing.

Bob Salmon is a spokesman for the company that owns the boats. He says they will return in the spring using the Schuylkill river instead of the Delaware and with safety improvements.

“We learned from the accident and want to make sure an accident like that never happens again, so we made some modifications to our safety equipment.”

City Councilman Frank DiCicco is pleased the ducks will remain in Philadelphia and change their route.

“it was an accident and hopefully they’ve learned from this and will make it a safer and more enjoyable trip.”

The captain of the duck boat is now suing the city and tugboat company, claiming physical and emotional trauma.
