Dover legislature to have DUI hearing

Delawareonline.com reports Representative Brad Bennett will go before a Sussex County judge February 15th on charges of driving under the influence.

There’s no word on what Bennett will plead at the hearing.  A court date from earlier this month had been postponed.  The Dover area lawmaker had been pulled over in the early morning of October 3rd while driving in Lewes. He had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.

After he was arrested he apologized for his actions and blamed them in part on the stress of going through a divorce proceeding.  He also said he didn’t expect any favors from the court system.

Bennett won re-election in November.  If he is convicted he could face 6 months in jail and lose his license for a year.
