Democrats to choose Bonnie Watson Coleman’s replacement in the NJ Assembly

On Saturday morning, about 240 Democratic committee members from Mercer and Hunterdon counties are scheduled to vote on who will suceed Bonnie Watson Coleman in New Jersey’s Assembly’s 15th Legislative District. Watson Coleman is now serving her first term in Congress representing the 12th Congressional District.

Mercer County Democratic chair Elizabeth Maher Muoio is the main candidate. She currently serves as economic development director for the county. Her main rival Mercer County Freeholder Sam Frisby dropped out and has endorsed Muoio.

Although, Muoio is the likely winner, anyone could theoretically be nominated at Saturday’s meeting, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Mercer Oaks country club.

Whoever is elected Saturday will keep the position until the end of 2015, but must run for re-election in November if he or she wishes to retain the seat.
