Delmarva Power workers strike

IBEW Local 1238 is on the picket lines after failing to reach an agreement with the power company on a new contract.

Members of IBEW Local 1238 hit the picket lines Friday after failing to come to an agreement on a new contract with Delmarva Power.  Union leaders had been negotiating for a new contract since the previous agreement expired and was extended in February.

In a statement, Delmarva Power regional president Gary Stockbridge says, “It’s unfortunate that the union chose to strike, but we are prepared.  We will continue to serve our customers.”

The company will use non-union employees and contractors to fill in for the workers who are on strike.  Local 1238 represents nearly 800 employees in northern Delaware, northeastern Maryland and Carney’s Point, New Jersey.
