Delaware unemployment rate ticks up slightly in January

Delaware’s jobless rate rose slightly in January to 4.4%. The December rate was 4.3%.
The numbers are shared between the outgoing administration of Governor Jack Markell and his successor, Governor John Carney.
The overall numbers still translate to an improvement from a year ago. 20,600 people were out of work in January 2017. A year ago that number was 21,500.
Delaware’s labor rate is still doing better than the national average. There rate nationally in January was 4.8%.
Unemployment is the highest in Wilmington and Dover at over 6%. New Castle County has a 4.7% rate. Kent and Sussex Counties come in at 5.1% and 5.5%
