Delaware law firm gives $500k endowment to Widener Law

Widener Law has received a half a million dollar donation to establish the William Prickett Corporate and Business Law School Scholarship Fund from one of Delaware’s oldest law practices.

The gift from Prickett, Jones & Elliott of Wilmington, will be used to provide an annual tuition scholarship for an individual law student that meets qualifications established by the donor.

“It will go toward, particularly, an outstanding student that either she or he has a specific interest in corporate and business law through our corporate and business law institute,” explained Linda Ammons, dean of Widener University School of Law.

Widener offers a competitive corporate law program through their Institute of Delaware Corporate and Business Law which gives students the opportunity to flex their skills in one of the world’s top corporate legal environments.

“It (the gift) also reaffirms our outstanding work in our area of corporate and business law not only for Delaware but for the United States and around the world,” added Ammons. “It honors the work of the Prickett Jones firm and what they have done.”

The endowment will also provide a yearly prize to a graduate who is preparing to take the Delaware Bar and demonstrates outstanding achievement in corporate law.

“We are just very thankful and grateful that the Prickett Jones firm thought of us,” said Ammons. “Bill Prickett has had a long standing relationship with this law school and there are a number of Widener alums that work at that firm currently.”

The William Prickett Corporate and Business Law Scholarship Fund honors the founder of the firm’s grandson, William Prickett Jr., who served on the law school’s Board of Overseers in the 1990s and early 2000s.
