Delaware June unemployment rises

Delaware Department of Labor reports that unemployment is up .1 percent in June to 4.2 percent.
After a dip in May, unemployment is back up to the April rate of 4.2 percent. While the slowing of employment was expected, the Delaware rate is still lower than the U.S. unemployment rate of 4.9 percent.
Dr. George Sharpley, Chief of the Office of Occupational and Labor Market Information, said, “I do believe that further declines in the rate, which I expect, will be less steady and steep than they have been in the first half of this year. In other words, I think the trend in the state’s unemployment rate will be flatter and move uneven in the coming months, but still largely down.”
The report also states that since June 2015, nonfarm jobs increased nationally by only 1.8 percent while Delaware’s increased by 3.4 percent.
