Delaware governor on a bike: just like a day at the office

Delaware Governor Jack Markell is a big proponent of making Delaware the number one biking state in the nation.

So, it was easy to understand why Markell was in an upbeat mood as he led a few dozen state workers and cabinet secretaries on his 7th Annual Bike Tour of Delaware.

This year the group took what it called the western loop.  They left just after 9 a.m. from the park and ride in Middletown and ended up in Dover 6 hours later.  State Education Secretary Mark Murphy was among those who joined in.  Markell’s son, Michael also went along.

Markell noted that State Representative Valerie Longhurst (D-Bear) was among those in the crowd who were on hand for the send off.  He said he would be riding with her on Saturday to kick off the first ever “River Town Ride and Festival”.  That’s a 10 mile ride taking place from 12n to 5p along the Route 9 bike trail corridor from Old New Castle to Delaware City.
