Delaware police search for arsonist

An early Wednesday morning fire at a home in Sparrow Run in Bear has been ruled arson.  Police are looking for a man they’re calling a person of interest in connection with the fire.

The fire in the 100 block of Brookmont Drive was reported around 2 a.m. Wednesday.  Heavy smoke and flames were seen when firefighters arrived.  The fire caused $80,000 in damage, but no one was injured.

Investigators looking into the cause of the fire that would eventually be determined to be arson also discovered several instances of criminal mischief to vehicles and other buildings in the nearby area.  The State Fire Marshall’s Office and New Castle County Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted for questioning.  Anyone with information is asked to call the State Fire Marshal at 323-5375 or New Castle County Police at 573-2800.
