Del. group hopes to open shelter for female vets

A homeless shelter for Delaware veterans is establishing a second home that’s intended to help female veterans and their children.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that Home of the Brave has bought a second home in a rural neighborhood outside Milford.Linda Boone, the president of the nonprofit’s board, says the home is meant to house up to six women.

That would make Home of the Brave the only shelter in Delaware to accommodate homeless female veterans and their children.

About one in 20 homeless veterans are women. With about 600 homeless veterans in Delaware, that means about 30 of them are female.
