Deadline approaching for Delaware River spokesdog contest

Molson and Teddie are already doing their part to protect the Schuylkill, but the Delaware River needs its own spokesdogs.

That’s why the Philadelphia Water Department and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary are looking for spokesdogs and their owners to spread the word about protecting waterways by cleaning up after pets.

Like the contest in Manayunk, Roxborough and East Falls, winners of the Philly Water’s Best Friend Spokesdog Competition will be chosen from a pool of finalists following a pageant-like contest.

This contest is open to dogs in Northern Liberties and Queen Village, and entries are Wednesday, Feb. 15. Winners, determined through a voting process that begins in March, get $200 in gifts from a local pet store and must appear at three community events to hand out bags and brochures on water pollution prevention.
