Cumberland County Republicans announce freeholder candidate

Jim Dunkins will have competition in his bid for former Cumberland County Freeholder Lou Magazzu’s seat.

Former freeholder and Vineland public schools assistant principal Mary Gruccio has entered the race, and the other prospective Republican candidates have dropped out to support her, the News of Cumberland County reports.

Unemployment, public safety and county courthouse construction top Gruccio’s priorities. Dunkins was set to retire, but will instead run for a new term to replace Magazzu, who left the post this summer after nude photos of him hit the web. Dem. Charlie Thomas was recently chosen to fulfill the rest of Magazzu’s current term.
