Cumberland County dogs dead after eating tainted meatballs

Three dogs in Cumberland County, N.J. have died after eating tainted meatballs. The SPCA and Division of Fish and Wildlife are trying to determine what’s in the meat.

The News of Cumberland County talked to Joan Jardel, whose 5-year-old golden retriever died quickly after he ate one of the meatballs near Dividing Creek in Downe.

Officials are working to determine what’s in the meat, as another citizen came across an uneaten one. Cyanide and strychnine have been ruled out, but two other dogs have died from the meatballs since Feb. 10.
