County reaches deal with sheriffs

New Castle County’s Deputy Sheriffs agree to a two-year contract that includes a 2.5% pay cut, but a guarantee of no-layoffs.

The contract is retroactive to July 1, 2011, and will expire on June 30, 2013.  The 2.5% salary concession and a new multi-tier health care benefit for retirees will save the county $13,300.  “This agreement is a credit to the outstanding public servants we have who recognize the financial challenges that are still ahead of us,” said County Executive Paul Clark.

The county is still negotiating with two union locals that have not approved contracts.  Those two unions represent the county police force and crossing guards.
