Council Pres. Clarke: Make Philly guest parking passes easier

Listen

Philadelphia could soon launch a simpler approach to getting a visitor parking permit.

City Council President Darrell Clarke says an easier guest parking system is key to expanding which Philadelphia neighborhoods are covered by resident permit parking rules.

“The issue is if you have a  friend a guest a healthcare worker or any other individual come to visit, you will be subject to getting a ticket because you don’t have a permit parking sticker,” he said.

Clarke says the problem is most acute around the city’s universities.

“This is clearly for a guest visitor for a short period of time.  A family member comes from out of town, you will be able to use the placard to park in the residential parking area,” he said.

The maximum permit time allowed would be five days under the proposal, a hearing on the idea is expected soon.
