Consol Energy sells half its Marcellus Shale interest to Texas company

A pending deal between Consol Energy and Noble Energy would mean the sale of half of Consol’s Marcellus Shale interest to Houston-based Noble. The $3.4 billion deal would give Noble development rights to those well sites in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

That’s more than 660,000 acres, according to the Associated Press, and the deal would allow Consol to double its rig count from four to eight this year and increase to 16 rigs by 2015.
