Confiscated ATVs resold at Parking Authority auctions

The Daily News has taken it upon itself to report on one of Philadelphia’s favorite topics: ATVs.

After taking a ride recently with a dirt bike crew, the Daily News reports today on how city practices help perpetuate the ATV culture.
“The PPA auctions off unclaimed vehicles two or three times a week, and the offerings almost always include a handful of dirt bikes and ATVs confiscated by police.”

The DN cites Baltimore’s policies and practices as guidelines for Philadelphia — including destroying confiscated ATVs— but city officials offered little comment on the matter.

As a matter of safety, police won’t pursue ATV drivers, but the department recently asked for tips about storage locations. Do you have other ideas for how to prevent illegal ATV riding in Philadelphia?
