Committee of Seventy praises PHA’s new gift policy

The Committee of Seventy is praising Public Housing Authority Interim Executive Director Michael Kelly for his ban on gifts to agency employees.

Kelly recently ordered the 20 employees who’s received $800 luggage bags from former Executive Director Carl Greene to return or pay for the carriers.

Seventy CEO and President Zach Stalberg commended Kelly in a statement today, and called for all city departments to adopt the same, clear gift policy.

“Kelly’s swift action at his first PHA Board meeting sends an unmistakable message that PHA must be a very different operation to earn back public trust. It should inspire city government to simplify and clarify its own gifts rules,” Stalberg said.
