City Council salary report

Wondering what your local council person is making? The Daily News has an answer for you.

The DN released this morning a list of earnings within Philadelphia’s City Council. Council President Anna Verna has the highest salary at $148,090. The numbers go down from there, all hovering in the low- to mid- $120,000 range.

Except for those lowly general council members, who are only pulling in $117,991. Frankly, the number isn’t that high compared with other municipal salaries.

Philly mag’s January 2010 issue broke down various govnerment and private sector earnings, and while the council folk aren’t too far off from May Nutter’s $167,440 (after a self-imposed 10 percent pay cut), they’re largely out of reach of one Mr. Vincent J. Fenerty. Jr., who pulls in a cool $183,000 as the executive director of the Philadelphia Parking Authority.

Keep that in mind next time you over pay for parking.

The question is, does the city employee payscale match the hierarchy? Should the Parking Authority director be earning more than council members?
